First Contact Physio Services at Leasowe Medical Practice
What is an First Contact Physio Service?
- The first choice for patients with musculoskeletal pain (muscles, tendons, arthritis, joints, and back issues).
- FCPs reduce the pressure on practice clinical teams and add value to patients with musculoskeletal problems.
- Provides early access to specialist MSK knowledge and assessment.
- Usually, one 20-minute appointment is all that is needed.
- Able to assess, diagnose, and organise onward management independently.
- FCP is NOT a course of rehab Physiotherapy – if ongoing rehabilitation is needed, FCPs can refer on just as a GP may do.
How do patients access the service?
- Open to any patient registered with the practice who meet the criteria.
- FCP should be the first choice for patients requesting appointments for MSK pain.
- Patients do not need to speak to a Doctor first
- Patient submits a Patchs or calls up for an appointment – you can directly book in with the FCP.
- Direct triage booking or triage apps (with set criteria).
- Appointments may be a mixture of telephone and face-to-face depending on local agreement.
- FCP can be based in a GP practice, Hub clinic, or remote telephone hub.
